Tramway: in Australia used to describe lightly built, special purpose railways.
To build a railway, an Act of Parliament is required, building a tramway, does not require an Act of Parliament.
They were used to transport things like timber, sugar, or explosives; or in the mining, construction, electricity, water or gas industry.

This is only a guide to some of the tramway that existed in Victoria. The exact number of them is unknown.
Some were less than 1 mile (1.609 km) in length (these are not included as they are too short).
Others were only horse powered (at the moment, these are only included if they are of enough significance due to the number of them).
